NBA All-Star Baron Davis, founder of No Label Productions, has joined director Brett Fallentine’s documentary FIRE ON THE HILL as an Executive Producer.  The film will make its world premiere this coming Saturday – September 22 at the 2018 Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF).

“I love my city of Los Angeles, and I’m always looking for stories promoting culture and progress,” states Davis. “It’s important to be involved with documentaries that tell great stories of people making it in life that feel authentic and don’t neatly wrap things up with a typical Hollywood ending. FIRE ON THE HILL gives a voice to those people that are working hard to better our communities, and it’s a great representation of Compton—cowboy style!”

“We are so honored to have Baron on our team,” says director Fallentine. “He has been a champion both on the basketball court and in the streets of Los Angeles with the work that he has done for the community.  His involvement with the Drew League, which aims to break down barriers between rival gangs in South L.A., is exactly the type of impact that the Cowboys at the Hill wish to fulfill. Having Baron as an EP only strengthens the mission that we set out to achieve with FIRE ON THE HILLand I’m honored to be teammates with him to bring about a positive change to South L.A.”

When a sudden and mysterious fire wipes out the Hill Stable– the last public horse stable in South Central, Los Angeles–a culture of urban cowboys come under threat. This western-documentary follows the life and struggles of three inner-city cowboys and the line they must walk between the gang-filled streets of LA and the path of an American Black cowboy.

Long before it was known for its hip-hop and gang culture, South Central Los Angeles was home to one of the most recognized cowboy communities in the Nation.  Yet after decades of urban development and rising street gang activity, this community–which had produced world champions– shrunk to all but a one-block horse stable known as “The Hill.”  When a mysterious fire destroys the Hill Stable in 2012, the future of this once thriving culture finds itself at the brink of vanishing forever.

FIRE ON THE HILL follows three cowboys in the wake of the fire.  Ghuan, seeing the fire as an opportunity to resurrect the stable in his own vision must win over the broken cowboy community and hunt down the land’s estranged owner before developers get to it first.  Chris, a rising bull rider from Compton, enters into his rookie year of professional rodeo and discovers that the LA streets aren’t so easy to leave behind.  And Calvin, having found freedom on the back of a horse, must choose between the cowboy lifestyle and his family when his inner demons come back to haunt him.

FIRE ON THE HILL paints a portrait of the little-known urban cowboy community in South Central LA.  Together, these three stories of perseverance shine a new light on what it means to be a “cowboy” in our modern world.  This genre-bending documentary combines western film style with South Central’s urban landscape to depict Los Angeles like it has never been seen before.

The film is a Preamble Pictures production in association with RYOT Films, Contend and Enso and is written, directed and produced by Fallentine.

The world premiere screening sold out within hours after tickets went on sale, and a second screening has been added for Monday, September 24 at the ArcLIght Hollywood.  Tickets are now available on https://www.filmindependent.org/la-film-festival/ticket-info/! Check out the dope trailer below.

Nick Cannon responds to Kanye West and he's not taking any of 'Ye's sh*t. Get into his funny response, plus see Will Smith perform his first stand-up comedy routine at Dave Chappelle's star-studded show inside...

What was said?

It didn't take Nick Cannon long to offer up a response to Kanye West's four-video Instagram rant where he went off on Nick, Drake, and model Tyson Beckford for speaking on his wife Kim Kardashian West.

Yeezy hopped on Instagram recently to issue a warning to the "Wild 'N Out" honcho to keep Kim's name out his mouth, especially when referencing her extracurricular activities, because it wasn't sitting right with his spirit.

Well, Nick isn't one to be pushed around by the Chi-town rapper. He started off welcoming the PABLO rapper back from the "sunken place," since 'Ye confirmed he was no longer lost. Then he proceeded to explain that he never said anything disrespectful towards his wife.

“First off, let me say welcome back ‘Ye from the sunken place,” Nick said in a video posted to his Instagram page. “It’s a beautiful thing. Glad you back with us brother. Nothing but love and respect for you. You know I’ve always had that. But I honestly gotta say this my dude. I’ve never said anything disrespectful or harmful to your — in my opinion — to your marriage or your union. I salute it. Keep it going."

After stroking Kanye's ego, he then proceeded to tell him that he's going to say whatever he wants, when he wants, and there's nothing he can do about it.

“But you not going to tell me what I can or can’t say. I’m a solid individual. Somebody ask me a question, I’m going to answer it to the best of my ability. I’m gonna give my opinion. Ain’t no harm, no foul. I know if it got your spirit feelin’ weird, holler at me. You know where I’m at. A man’s spirit is free but pride binds it at time. If you gotta let it loose, let it loose.”

Oop. In the caption, Nick wrote, "@Kanyewest holla at me!! Let’s get your Spirit right!”

Check it:

In another video (following Kanye's way of communication), Nick invited Kanye to return to "Wild 'N Out" for their 200th episode. He said nothing is off limits: Mariah Carey jokes, Kim K jokes, everything is fair game. He also welcomed 'Ye to give him a call rather than communicate through IG videos.

The kicker? Nick put a tea emoji (which we think is in reference to Ye once being in the sunken place like in Jordan Peele's movie Get Out) after welcoming Kanye back.

HA!

In comedy news...

Will Smith just crossed off something new on his bucket list! The actor/rapper performed his first stand-up comedy routine, opening up for EMMY winning comedian Dave Chappelle during his star-studded show at the Peppermint Club in LA. And he had his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter Willow Smith, and mother-in-law Adrienne Banfield-Jones in the audience cheering him on.

During his routine, he shared with the audience that his 50th birthday was coming up and he has always wanted to do stand-up. He had cameras rolling as he was filming the his routine for a show called "The Bucket List."

The "Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" alum cracked jokes about losing control of his house as his wife's "Red Table Talk" Facebook show has turned the garage into a control booth. He even cracked a joke about his ex-wife Sheree Fletcher being booked for the first episode.

Will also joked about his son Jaden Smith creating a song titled "Icon" and not letting him rap on the track

“He looked at me like I was the second-best rapper in the house!," he said. Ha!

After his stand-up routine, Will rocked the mic with an original rap. Check it:

Kevin Hart is frustrated and he's letting Katt Williams HAVE IT! The funnyman is fact checking Katt and he isn't NOT sugar coating ANYTHING. Get into his rant, plus watch Tiffany Haddish co-host "Live! With Kelly & Ryan" inside...

Kevin Hart is frustrated and he has time NOT to be humble today.

The Night School actor and his co-star Tiffany Haddish stopped by Power 105's "The Breakfast Club" to chop it up about their comedy film thats set to hit theaters next Friday, September 28th.

When Kev said, "I have time to NOT be humble today," we knew ish was going to get real.

 photo kevtiff1.png

After Katt Williams bashed Tiffany during an interview last week (saying she doesn't deserve the success she has received), Kev had to get some things off his chest. And that's exactly what he did, straight talk, no chaser. Kevin went LETHAL on Katt and called him out on his ish!

"My frustration with Katt Williams comes from.... You keep pointing at, 'Hollywood, Hollywood, this, the white man, this, this, and this.' When do you take responsibility for your actions?" Kevin asked.

"You had the shot. You were the guy. You were set up to be the star. You didn't show up to work, you f*cked off promo shoots, you fucked off the promo fucking trips that they had set up for you. You became a risk to the studios, which is why the studios stopped f*cking with you."

Why was he a risk? "He chose drugs. Take responsibility for what you chose," Kevin responded. Spill that tea.

Peep a clip below:

The Ride Along actor asked if Katt Williams ever used his platform to bring the comedians that are under him up (i.e. Leslie Jones, Luenell). He answered: Nope! And since he hasn't, he said Katt needs to stop sh*tting on those that are succeeding. He said he brought his people up and that makes him a "f*ckin' boss."

"So take responsibility for what YOU did. You f*cked you. No one else did," he said.

"Don't shit on my sister's light because you're not happy with your sh*t," he continued. "This sh*t is earned, it's not given. I don't give a fuck if you're a Tiffany Haddish fan or not. It's earned. Tiffany Haddish got years in the game. It's not an accident that Tiffany Haddish got an opportunity to star in a movie. It's not an accident that that character popped in a movie, written or not written. A character has to pop it."

During the EMMY Awards, Tiffany and Kat came face-to-face backstage and snapped pics. Tiff revealed he apologized to her about the interview. She said she didn't get mad because he didn't even have his facts straight.

"I still am a fan of his. I think he's hilarious," TIffany said.

When Tiff was asked what he said during his apology, Kev chimed in.

"It doesn't matter what he said. It doesn't matter what the apology was. It's not about the apology. Katt Williams is an amazing, talented comedian, which is why I'm so frustrated. I sit from afar and admire the man's talent. I don't like that he said anything negative towards a woman of color that's getting her shot," Kevin said.

He said he has forever been "the humble guy," but he has time to fact check everything Katt has said about his body of work. Katt said he sold 2.4 million tickets on his last comedy tour.

"That's more than Beyonce and Justin Timberlake combined. Do you understand how many tickets 2.4 million tickets are?"

Kevin gave props to those who came before him and then ran down his creditals, confirming his worldwide tour is on par with the likes of Bruno Mars, Jay Z and Beyonce.

"To throw out numbers like 2.4 million is ridiculous. That's false. It's not even close. Also to say 15 consecutive 100-city tours, FALSE. There's a Forbes list every year that comes out. Go back to 2007, 2006 and Katt Williams has never been on it."

Bloop!

He said he's speaking up because of what was said about innocent people who are working hard on their craft.

Kev also said Netflix specials aren't given to comedians by what they sell on the road. It's not about tickets, it's about your brand and your return. (Interesting.) He also revealed he kept his $40 million Netflix deal underwraps just because. Wow!

The Jumanji star said the only negativity he has received is from Katt Williams and Mike Epps.

"Those are two people who f*cked themselves over," he said.

Speaking of the crabs in a barrel mentality, Kevin also touched on how black people will complain about how we aren't receiving the same opportunites as white entertainers, yet, when someone of color starts getting opportunities, black people like to tear them down.

"I want to ask black people what we want," he said. " When the people of color get these opportunities, why are the people of color the ones tearing the people who are getting these opportunities down?"

Peep the clip below:

Watch Kevin start popping off at the 5:50 mark below:

Kevin let him have it!

On daytime television....

The Girls Trip actress joined Kelly Ripa on "Live! With Kelly & Ryan" to co-host. She talked about how Kevin helped her when she was homeless. During a commercial break, she explained why her idols in comedy are Richard Pryor and Lucille Ball, and she opened up about the surprising path that led her to comedy while she was in foster care. Peep the clip above.

In another clip, the EMMY winner chatted about everything from “bean water,” to sending in a VHS to be a “Live” co-host, her favorite designers at Fashion Week, mammograms, and $1,000 sponge shoes. Get your laugh on above.

Rotimi Talks Groupies On Bossip On WE tv

Despite being a hated villain on “Power”, Rotimi is a certified panty melter. The actor/singer stopped by Bossip on WE tv yesterday to tell the crew all about playing bad-guy Dre on the hit Starz show and to talk his personal life.

According to Rotimi a.k.a Nigerian Buttascotch, he’s admittedly “nasty” and single—so he’s looking for a good time.

Leslie Jones Had This To Say About Kevin Hart & Katt Williams Beef

The comedians have more beef than the rappers these days! On Friday, Kevin Hart ripped Katt Williams a new one on the Breakfast Club, regarding his comments about Tiffany Haddish’s career. In the same interview, Kev claimed Leslie Jones was one of the many female comedians he put on.

But the SNL star says issa lie! Less Dogg spoke to a Bossip source bout both Kevin and Katt claiming they’re the reason behind her and other female comedian’s success — and sis was not here for it:

Real talk both of them ni**as need to keep my name out they mouth unless they using it to eat my p***y REAL TALK!! None of those ni**as put me on or any woman. While he talking about Katt what did he do to put women on he didn’t help females they wasn’t on his tour F*CK THAT NI**A!! At least Katt put me on his tour. Kevin could have put me on a long time ago but he never respected me or my comedy and trust I can call his card he know I can. Both Kevin and Katt was the same to women like all these ni**as in this game. Sh*tty. and still is. Women have never had it good. At least Katt put women on his tour or shows. How many shows back in the day didn’t have a woman on them. Kevin that mf told me one time I would never make it.

Oop! That’s not all. Leslie says it was actually Chris Rock who put her on, and even then she still had to grind:

So I’m calling all cards I ain’t got to lie I made it without either one of them. Chris rock was the one who put Me on and Neal Brennan a WHITE comic/writer. Not them!! And I still had To work my f***ing ass off to make it happen!! So nobody is telling the truth! everyone need to shut the f*ck up!! Before I tell whats really real!! And they all know I know. I haven’t said shit about anyone and if I do I keep it real and respectful and honest. What’s upsetting me is anybody SAYING ANYTHING!! Shut the f*ck up and do your f***ing job cause this ain’t it. While y’all on columns downing each other and lying on each other no one is telling jokes. SHUT UP AND DO YOUR F***NG JOB!! Keep my name out your mouth I dont talk about any of you!!

Kevin was pissed, but Leslie Jones is seething, honey. Who gets the last laugh though?

And he did more than smile for pictures and give handshakes. He made sure the Duchess of Sessex was looking her best the entire time.
